Well, my band had a CD release party on saturday night (it was the band's first album, and my first time ever doing a release show!), and man did we luck out big time on the tech. We all know the nightmares that exist out there when it comes to these folks, and I figured I was in big trouble; I had a rig that was not particularly simple to manage. It was my Ric using stereo output to run one amp for neck pickup (bass amp) and one for bridge pickup (guitar amp), with each amp getting a couple pedals. Neither amp had a DI port, and I wanted at least the bass amp (Ampeg B-18) to be mic'd, but ideally both. The dude was completely accommodating, mic'd both, and gave us a stellar soundcheck, making sure all our monitors were balanced just how we wanted them. The place sounded great (the opener used our backline as well, so we got to hear it from the crowd). Having everything all set-up like that was a rare treat, and damned if the Rick didn't sound ballsy as hell! Most guys I've had before would have just insisted on DIing the bass amp, and probably question why I was using a second amp, let alone a guitar amp...
Thanks, brother, I appreciate it! Not sure when we're getting out to Hamilton; we just had a CD release, and it looks like we're gonna step back from the stage for a while to get a whole bunch of new tunes up and running... we've been rocking these current originals for a while, and it's time for a fresh set!
Seems like good sound guys are far and few between but when you get them it rules. Nothing makes me red faced faster than a soundguy insisting I plug into his crap DI instead of using my amp DI or mic'ing my cab. Glad it went well for you! PS: Great avatar... I LOVE king crimson
