Not acoustic basses. Those cool looking semi hollows with the F holes they used back in the 60's and 70's. I miss that tone alot.
  2. Off the top of my head, I know Gretsch makes them. Guild used to, but they stopped production a while back.

I have two semi hollowbodied basses but neither is like the 335 style basses from years ago. I have an Elrick NJS fretless 5 and a Linc Luthier 4.

Well, I don't know of any 335 style basses other than the ones listed. For semi-hollow bodies, along the lines of what Brad mantioned, I know of the F Bass Alain Caron Signature, the Kinal DK5-B and apparently Dingwall is in the process of firing one of these up.

  8. Swingbass, if you really want to get a great sounding semi hollow body, seriously check out the Epi Jack Casady. It is fantastic.

Bill Conklin is now making some killer semi-acoustic basses (and guitars). I played one yesterday at Bill's shop, and they are amazing!
  10. Yamaha makes a nice, retro looking, hollow body. The BEX-series. I want one.

Epiphone Jack Casady (wow! what a bass this is!!)
Azola Jazzman and Nouveau (absolutley incredible...maybe the best I have played!)
Godin A4 and A5...yes they are semi-acoustics (chambered bodies)
    Kinal DK5-b
    Epi Rivoli reissue
    Guild Starfire Re-issue
    The aforementioned Warwick
    Citron AB
    lest we forget Hofner
Dean Rhapsody (very nice and affordable, but not a 335 Gibson-type design)
Yamaha BEX4C (looks just like an old Harmony)
Lakland HB (amazing tone...but an amazing price, too!)
...and, of course, there are more!

  14. I've never liked any of the Spectors I've tried, i e Asian or Czech made ones (sadly enough, I've only seen American Spectors in pictures), that much. Something about the necks have put me off, especially on the European one. Laquered necks are not my cup of tea, to name one issue I have with them.
But, now I want one. It might not be on top of my list of got to have basses - a list that's changing, and never static.
That Spector is really nice. But,then again, I'm partial to semi hollow basses, for some reason.

BTW, one of the best basses I've ever tried was semi hollow. A Leduc U-bass. That might have something to do with my preferences.

Nowadays, I lust for a Shuker Semi-Solid bass.

  17. You can upgrade a Hanewinckel ( http://www.hguitars.com/ ) to semi-hollowbody for $250.

He doesn't seem to have any pics up yet though.

    Shameless Plug warning!

I have a new design coming out this fall that is a semi acoustic, not only a semi hollow. The first few will only be avaliable in fretless, with the model named Smoothie.

I think Veillettes - like R/A's - also use "tone chambers"

Y'all see the new Billy Sheehan BEX BS Yammer in the latest BP?
