Who's played a Yamaha Nathan East Sig???

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by KuMBye YamALaWd, Mar 16, 2005.

  1. I'm in dire need of a 5-string; To cut a long story short, I've been offered a Yamaha Nathan East Signature model (BBNE2) for a rather good price.... :hyper:

I've never played one; :help: and I'll be allowed about half-an-hour to try it out before saying "yay" or "nay" - if "nay", it'll be sold to someone else.... :meh:

....and this try-&-buy(or not) happens in less than 12 hours (I'm in Australia)....

...I searched this forum, and found just a little; apparently:

    1) The frets are "sharp" (as in "cutting", not "pitch")
    2) The fingerstyle tone is OK, but the slap tone ... is not??

...the seller has described the tone as "Darker than normal" (?)

    I've played a 6-7 yr-old TRB 5-string; I liked it's tone, really liked the playability....but is it anything like a BBNE2??

    1) Sharp Frets?
    2) Slap Tone?
    3) Can I get a "growling" tone out of it? (the "Dark Tone" description makes me expect not)
    4) Any hum/noise?
(The Pick-ups: The Yamaha site blurb says they are
"Alnico V Stack Pickups", but also describes them as "Single Coil Pickups" <--- stacked pickups, right? Essentially Noiseless, right? or not???

Anything else anyone could add about the BBNE2 would be appreciated.... :)
