    hi all,

probably not the right locale for this topic.

i'm sure a mod will let us know.

here's something that was beaten to death on another forum.

thought i'd get some rational opinions from talkbass folk...

"if you SPEC out a bass from a manufacturer using their list of options...or even using components they don't normally offer, did you DESIGN that bass even though the body, neck, bridge and pickups are stock?"

plenty of arguments were made yay and nay using architectural/engineering analogies on the other forum.

If one were to use the same argument when picking out options for a new car or even adding after-market parts, I doubt that anyone would consider you the car's "designer." I think that there is a lot more involved in designing an instrument than deciding what parts to put on it or what color it should be.

In this case the customer is creating his own personal version of someone else's design.

Good thing we got them there Moderates on this here forum... ;)

Anyway, here's my 2 cents: In your example, I think you are choosing from available options to create your version of the instrument. If you change the body style or electronics into something unique, that may be defined as co-designing.
