Who is your favourate funk bassist?

mine would probably have to be Flea from the red hot chili peppers..his bass lines are so cool.

  3. George Porter of the Meters, (I think that's his name)

Oh and Paul Jackson, though he might techinically be a jazzer.
  4. well.. Of course Bootsy is up there. But also Marcus Miller, and Ingi S. Skúlason of Jaguar.

and many more.... hard to choose :)

Though he played with a "Jazzer"(Herbie)-
    Jackson' stuff *is* very Funk-infested.
(Michael Henderson's stint with Miles is analogous).

Agree with all(especially Jaco, Rocco, Jamerson, Porter, & Jackson)- ;)
    Have to add:
    Alphonso Johnson
    Stanley Clarke
    Chuck Rainey
    Verdine White
    Oteil Burbridge

Paul "action" Jackson of the Headhunters--saw him in the 70's w/ Herbie Hancock and last year w/ Mike Clark's Prescription renewal. Man can this cat percolate!

James Jamerson and Francis Rocco Prestia!

Also lovely examples that funk isn't primarily about slapping, a common misconception.
