Check out this site. They're pushing these as their "custom" basses, but these are Carvins! What gives?! Also click on the other products, and check out the other "custom" stuff. I wonder if Carvin knows about this. http://www.scsr.nevada.edu/~groot/project2/new_bass.html
i like the "555" phone number they're using. this may be just a "practice" website, using carvin pics as placeholders.
Hey JMX, the area code can be valid, but if the local code (which is the middle 3 numbers) is 555, then its a fake number.
Ah ok, the us phone system confuses me. EDIT we were looking at different numbers maybe: it's on the start page But I agree, the " project" in an .edu url gives it away as a test IMO.
The comments are even funnier. "The Moon-Glow 5 is so named because the special finish we apply to this 5 string bass gives it its unique glow. The double-pole humbucking pickup at the bridge will allow you to funk with the best of them" (I don't see any "moonglow" here) and "Try the 2001 Phantom 5 that Bass Player magazine called "An unparalleled bargain for a professional musician on a tight budget" Carvin AND Bass Player might get ticked at this; I'm hoping JT's right about it being a practice site.
"We are the only authorized reseller of Carvin Guitars in the world. Carvins are manufactured in the U.S. in San Diego, California" This is on the home page so one would assume they know.
This is on the main page: "We are the only authorized reseller of Carvin Guitars in the world. Carvins are manufactured in the U.S. in San Diego, California."
That's true... There's something hinkey about the whole thing... Even if it is just a "practice" page they should remove the "Order" link from it..
"...Since then JG Guitars has been selling fine Carvin Guitars, and custom guitars made from Carvin kits." Call it what you will, to me it's still a ripoff. So I'm gonna build Fender copies from Fender parts and call them OM Guitars. Oh yeah. Oh wait! It's probably already been done!
I think we have been over the Sadowsky argument enough to know they do not use Warmoth parts. Although have in the past.
Well isn't that a great Quote.........But Wait a second isn't Bass Central the only AUTHORIZED dealer for Carvin!!!!
This is also from the home page............ "ABOUT OUR COMPANY JG Guitars has been around since 1999, when our founder Joe Groot decided to build his first guitar. He had been modifying guitars for some time, when he decided it was time to make "the big move" and try to make his own instrument. Using a Carvin kit, Joe assembled, soldered and finished a 5-string bass. Since then JG Guitars has been selling fine Carvin Guitars, and custom guitars made from Carvin kits." So let me get this Straight.... They build basses/guitars that Carvins sells as Kits..and RENAME them............Well well...Why didn't I think of that?
