Why do this to a Rickenbacker? Warning: tough image for Rick lovers.

Saw this on facebook in bass players united I think. There are parts of this bass that still look really good and can't imagine what possessed someone to do this to such a wonderful bass. I've dubbed it the "Rickenchopperbacker" and trying to find something appealing about it.

I'm impressed that they ran the binding around the new "amputated" contours.

Eew, that’s pretty bad all over.
Maybe it was beat when received by PO with the upper horn hanging by some wood fibers and binding and that’s as far as they got? :woot:

Puts the "apocalyptic" in post-apocalyptic. On the bright side, maybe it's not an authentic Ric?

I am a hobbyist making stone picks that I sell but mostly give away. They made me do this anyways.

Sort of like decapitatiing someone, then paying for plastic surgery to make the neck stump look good, if you ask me.

Isn't it obvious? They were trying to make the body match the headstock.

I love seeing these. Every sin committed against a Ric makes mine more valuable.

I had a feeling the post would be that image.

The bass belongs to the bassist/lead singer from All Them Witches. He bought it from a guy who had mutilated it to make it LH. He restrung it RH and doesn't seem to have any problems playing it.

This looks to me like it was converted to be played left handed. It's hard to look at but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

  19. That is fugly.

Everyone knows if you want to chop up a good bass, make it a teardrop shape. Just ask Geddy.

That "was" a nice vintage Rickenbacker 4001. Neck toaster 1/2" spacing, full with MOP inlays. Probably a '72 or '73 or earlier. Sigh.....
