It's kind of bewildering to figure out which one might work for a given purpose. I wish they'd just offer 3 or 4 basic models...
They have several signature models from some fairly diverse players with specific and differing tonal requirements so it makes sense that they need lots of models.
i don't buy that. Aguilar also has endorsements from some *HUGE* players and doesn't feel the need to release a janek, grey or garrison model. If an amp is a solid amp with a wide tonal range, it should be pretty sufficient for general usage...
Get the standard Little Mark iii, that’s the starting point most of the signature models evolved from and is the core Markbass sound. I’ve been running it’s predecessor the LMii since they came out and it’s been great.
There are new models in the pipeline, likely to replace the old. But they really have variations of about 5 different amps, some voiced differently and various power levels. Personally, I like 31 flavors vs just vanilla, chocolate or strawberry.
Maybe not the best argument for “diverse” players. These guys all have about the exact same tone, right?
oh, ok my bad. Ive never had a 3.5 mm line in any amp Ive owned in 36 years of playing but I get why people would want one.
Dave has his business model at Aguilar, Marco has his at Markbass. One has nothing to do with the other.
Ya know, I don’t really follow Markbass but it looks like the same model with differences to aim towards a range of players. I just read the descriptions and it seems like the basic designs with different features and power.
I’ve got one Markbass Minimark 602 for use in my office; a Markbass CMD 121P for use at home; and a second Markbass CMD 121 with a New York 121 extension for gigs and rehearsals. Those cover my needs rather well no matter what else Markbass may be offering.
I’m guessing it’s marketing and a function of how they want to run their business. If you really want to know ask them. Be sure and let us know what you find out.
that's what I'm talking about though. What is the CMD series? What is the overarching purpose for the models and where is the hierarchy? Do they all share a common preamp and poweramp design but with a couple added features or tweaks? It just seems like a funny marketing strategy
Checkout the (huge) discontinued section of the Markbass website! They have a weird design and sales philosophy.
