What about his Rick isn't better then the hofner???
He probaly has a sentimnal connection with hid hofner.
And Rics do some things well, and some things, not so well.
It's not the basses, it's his ears.
And many millions and millions of dollars say his ears are right.
Why? It works, doesn't it?
Why get a new one when the old one works just fine?
Also, he probably doesn't want his old hofner floating around the market.
Ahem, I believe it's SIR Paul McCartney.
Uh, actually I think it's just "Sir Paul" if you wan't to be English...
Well, he prbably played it cause he loves the bass. He probably does have new one & he probably dosen't.
For all we know, it might be a new one that has been "relec-ed" to look like his original one & the original in in a maximum security vault.
Just think how much that old Hofner is worth.......!!
Why did Jaco use his old beat up Fender and not a newer one?
If it's what you like, and what you can get a good sound out of, then who cares about the age?
I play an old '78 P-bass that looks like crap and is way too heavy, but it is the only bass I have ever had. I have played many other basses, but I always like the ol P better than any of them.
If something is working, you tend to stick with it
I was thinking something like that - I saw him at the Staple Center last year, and at the end of the show he threw his Hofner across the stage to his guitar roadie. The original Beatle bass has to be almost priceless, so I was thinking that he just has a replica that he uses on tour, and the original is locked away somewhere.
I do think that he has used the Hofner lately to be reminiscent of the Beatle days... as his roadie says on the tour DVD "it's probably the most iconic guitar in the world". Personally, I loved seeing him play it while singing "Hello Hello" .
