In general Led Zeppelin have a much wider appeal than Rush. Their music is also very appealing to women, unlike Rush.
What do you think? What are the main reasons?

Led Zeppelin wrote better, more appealing songs.

Better looking, better singing, more relatable blues based material, British.

I’m pretty sure it’s because Rush employed double basses in both the violin-cornered and gamba styles, while Led Zeppelin was strictly busetto.

[this will make less sense when the thread gets moved]

Are double bassists not allowed to like rock bands?

I saw Rush maybe 10 years or so ago, there were plenty of women there.

But to answer your question, while they both had commercial appeal, LZ had more commercial appeal as they wrote catchier songs.

To be fair, the DB forum can be somewhat exclusionary in their non-instrument related posts to the point that there will be “DB Forum” disclaimers on posts that have nothing to do with bass at all.

Welp, 250+ million records sold would say that there are a couple folks who agree with my 'subjective' assessment lol

I wonder how things would have panned out if Rush came out of Britain? :)
