Fenders...i would love to get a fender P or J with a maple board...new, they're $1300 Canadian...why so much? I mean, i love the tone and feel of both, but why so expensive? Yes, i have searched pawn shops all around the city too! (winnipeg sucks )
I bought my MIA P-bass for $500 brand new. I think it was worth the extra money over the MIM P-bass. I would look into getting a beefed up mim, or buying a mim and beefing it up yourself. If i were you, i would get a used MIM p or j, then buy a new bridge, then later maybe a new set of pups, then some new tuners, and already you have a bass better than a mia. Maybe you should talk to fender and see if they'll make a MIC (Made in Canada)
Fender doesn't have a made in Canada. I had an MIA Jazz Bass Deluxe V. I paid around $1200 CDn for it. I found that it was better than the MIM in terms of solidness of construction, sound and woods (it had an alder body with an ash top, which had a nice resonant, yet punchy sound. I must day I disliked the B string which led to me ultimately trading it off. I loved the EAD and G though, so I will probably look inot getting a MIA Jass 4-string in the future. Oh and really for a good quality Made Is America product, $1300 CDN isn't bad. you should try good, quality Made in Canada and you are probably gonna start at $2000 (But I'd argue that these manufacturers are better than Fender, handbuilt and whatnot). There aren't alot of other MIA basses that you could pick up for $1300 CDN. I looked onto getting a Carvin when I bought the Fender, but the duty, exchange and tax made it more than twice as much as the factory direct price. Geoff
I personally don't think thay're worth it, but that's IMO. The newer American Series are more expensive than the recently dicontinued American Standard. In the States, the American Standard basses were being sold @ a nice discount. You might wanna look around to see if any stores have the American Standard & you might be able to get it @ a better deal. <a href="http://www.theoremnyc.cjb.net"><img width=385 height=70 src="http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1174383&a=8647027&p=41535909&Sequence=0&res=high" border=0></a>
They cost so much because of a couple things probably: 1. The stores markup 2. You are in Canada 3. The stores markup Have you ever thought of getting one from the U.S.? I am not sure if you ever travel here, but I am sure you could find a good deal, if not look for used. jtbp
You are not going to get a better deal shopping in the States unless you can find an incredible deal on the bass. Take Musician's Friend's price on a Standard American Jazz Bass 4-string. It is $944.99. If you put the EXCHANGE RATE to it you will see that it is $1511. So you will be able to buy it for cheaper at the price you saw it at in Canada. But maybe you can find one that is less than $800US, then it would be cheaper than in Canada. Geoff
Good point Nino.In December 2000 I bought a "new" 98 MIA P (sunburst/rosewood neck)with hardshell case,strap etc....for $525.
relman, if you are in Winnipeg, you aren't very far from Fargo, ND. If you get a chance, call up Marguerite's Music in Moorhead, MN. They usually have a few MIA's in stock, and if not, they will order in whatever you want, without obligation to buy. And they have always been great to deal with for me. I have gotten great deals on all the gear that I have bought there. If you are interested, I can give you their phone number.
Sure! I'll be going to Grand Forks soon enough, so a little trip to Fargo is now the plan! Do you have the address? Oh, and to whoever mentioned carvin...they sound a little too sterile for me...
I will PM you with their phone number. I am not too sure of the address, because I believe they have now moved to their new store, and I haven't been there yet. Let me know when you are going there, I am only an hour away from Fargo. Ryan
