I love that videos show what was a good performance but hate that it rarely has a decent sound quality. Example 1:

free press is better than no press right?
Example 2: audience pan 15 seconds into this one shows just about everyone in the audience taking a distorted youtube/ Facebook live video.

That's the point. Most of these are not the same as an official recording released by the band.

I have zero complaints about YouTube. I love it just the way it is. I hope it stays that way forever.

The only complaint I have with YouTube is that I wish we sounded better on it.

  7. I looked forward to an ad-free youtube subscription plan until I saw the price. Way too pricey for the inconsistent quality.

I think you sound better if you wear shorts on stage. ;):roflmao:

On a serious note, the most annoying thing about the sound from Youtube is that most people watch on their phone or tablet. So you could spend a ton of time getting the sound quality good, but then you're at the mercy of what things sound like out of a mobile device speaker, which is almost always bad. It's the deal we've made with the devil to have media readily available like this.

Great video tho, you guys are good! Singer has an awesome voice.

    Hi,

I think it's like anything else, GIGO. In other words "garbage in, garbage out". Granted, the sample rate and bit depth on the generic Youtube stream is not the best, but if you start with a good recording it won't be bad when you play it back. If you start with a cellphone recording or other ambient mic it will sound like doody.

    Cell phone video:

The exact same concert but with audio taken right from the FOH mixer:

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

I think the picture & sound quality of the newer generation (2015+) of Galaxy and iPhone take an incredibly decent video! Of course it starts and ends with the person doing the capturing... especially where they're standing in relation to sound quality. And of course the band has to not suck :D

I wish more people would take and post 'em! :)

The point is, what you are getting is the equivalent of the old bootleg recording. If you want a high quality recording, purchase the real recording (yeah, back in the old days when people actually had to pay for music to listen to if they didn't want to use the radio...).

There are levels of quality to those that have accounts available as well, so if you're willing to pay a bit more, the sound quality *can* be better, provided the original recording is good to begin with. Otherwise, as BassCliff says GIGO.

Even when the A/V quality is not pristine, YouTube is still pretty fantastic...
