A don't know the maple grade but
pic # 1 not the best maple but single piece or,
pic # 2 best maple piece but bookmatched
    wich one's the best?

And by the way, would you help me by telling wich grade are those bodies?

  2. I like the first one better. IMHO, dyed Quilted Maple tops are so commonplace that they've become an eyesore. The first bass is at least a little unusual.

Grading seems to be subjective. One man's AAA is another man's A.

I'd vote for the bookmatched quilted. Beautiful wood never goes out of style imho.

I like the one on the right. #2

I think it's pretty cool that you have a decorative top selector switch.
    Who makes those?

I think their both cool, #1 because its different, #2 just because its beautiful and good looking wood is always cool. Wood grading seems to be personal prefrence although there are some guide lines. I'm not sure #1 would rate. #2 I would say would be AAAA. At least it looks Inline with the other AAAA rated tops I have seen ( nice deep , defined, and even quilt with out any out of place looking irregularities). In not an expert and don't claim to be. Sweet looking basses though!

Ahah! Decorative top selector switch! I wish it was....

Those are Musicman sterlings... I had a problem with the finish on the first (pic # 2) and they kindly replace it for the # 1 body. Just wanted to know what was the difference with the two.

The first one also looks bookmatched to me, can you get a shot with a different angle? Maybe it's just a trick of the photo...

  8. You think that's cool; the 2013 models also come with a "chameleon switch" allowing color change as well.

I like the second one better also. ;)

I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "best".

Neither is any better than the other, its just a decorative top. Neither has any structural benefit, or any effect on tone. So the best top would be the one that is the most aesthetically pleasing to your eye.

Personally I like the first one. Its a little bit understated, and asymmetrical. The second looks like any mid priced Ibanez RG hanging on the wall at GC.

The best one is whatever makes you reach out for the bass ;)

I like the first one as dyed QM is really really overdone. No one seem to like this wood in its natural look anymore uh? LOL

And I [DEL]suspect[/DEL] [DEL]bet[/DEL] am [DEL]pretty[/DEL] sure that the first one is a two lams top too. But who cares ;)

after close look it seems to be as you say, two lams.

I'm happy with what I got now so I think everything's fine!
