I found a nice pickguard for my 13 hole P bass but they only have it on stock for 10 hole p bass. Are the holes on both aligned and are the pickguards also the same dimensions?
If you are speaking strictly in Fender USA/MIM sizes, then the two types are the same dimensions. However, I believe you will need to drill one or two new holes to accommodate a 10-hole pickguard if your bass is set up for a 13-hole pickguard.
Warpeg is right. I have a 10 hole gold anodized guard on a 62 AVRI body and 9 holes match. The one that doesn’t line up is between the knobs. I decided to not drill it on mine.
I want to pull the trigger on a 58 gold aluminum pickguard but I'm hesitant because I'm afraid it won't fit my 13-hole precision. I've had problem with aftermarket pickguards, maybe a proper Fender part will fit better. It's not cheap
Straight answer. No it won't. Like many others posts. I have a body for a 13 holes and i must've gone through 3 different 10 holes pick guards. None of them lined up.
I bought a cheap 13 hole PG that doesn't fit my bass. Then again i bought a replacement Bronco PG from an eBay vendor that fits perfectly. Maybe my bass has misplaced holes. It definitely makes sense since the bridge is also misplaced. Friday night Fender QC strikes again!
if it's a USA or mex fender then yes, a proper fender branded one will fit better; exactly what kind of bass do you have?
Do not count on a 10 hole guard aligning with 10/13 of your existing points. It is very unlikely to happen. I’ve tried many guard, both cheap and expensive. Often, it’s a crapshoot. It is possible that the new guard won’t even align to the point of covering the control cavity while aligning with the pick ups and neck. Given that you’ve not stated what Bass and what guards…you will not get a viable answer.
2020 MIM Fender Player Precision. I replaced the neck with a 2020 Vintera that fits perfectly, (except it needs a shim because the saddles are almost bottomed out but i don't want to change anything because the bass feels and sounds better now. Paranoid!) The replacement PG I bought (Boston brand i believe) is just too tight and when i box it up something touches the shielding and grounds the output. I've put electrical tape everywhere and it still doesn't make a sound. I've given up on that PG
