Will a chrome pickup cover fit on a SX 5 string?

Will it? More specifically, on the SX SJB-62 41 5 String.

If you're talking about the standard Jazz Bass neck pickup cover, it probably will fit the Essex with no problem.

I have a 5 string Lakland Skyline Jazz Bass, and I had Dan Lakin put a cover on it (see the blue one in my avatar). The internal clearance within the standard Fender size cover is just under being 4 inches wide. On a 5 string you'll end up with less distance between the B & G strings and the cover itself, than compared to a 4 string. There's still a lot of room for the string to vibrate, so no worries about the string touching the cover. All of this assumes that the distance from the B to G string at the neck pickup on your Essex is about the same as on my Lakland, less than 2.75 inches.

Ok. So does anyone know for sure? I'd think it'd be a good to use once I change the pickups and add the pickup cover as a finger playing bass and keep my Stingray reserved as my pick bass.

i've put a jazz bass cover over the neck pickup of a warmoth jazz bass 5 copy. so it shouldn't be a problem at all if you align it nicely. you'll need a little more clearance on the B string side though.
