I am currently using an SWR Workingman's 4004 and I have been looking into getting an SWR pro 350x. The only thing stopping me is the fact that I don't know if the 350 watts with the preamp tube will cut through as well as the 4004. I know the features are a hell of a lot better and it can't sound worse because the 4004 sounds great to me, but I really want one of the 350x's. I'd appreciate any help you SWR players could give me. Thanks. BTW I play in a metal/rock band and my guitarists are using 5150's and Marshall mode 4's. The 4004 has no problem cutting through it. -tko
it's tube, so yeah. i'd also recommend the workingpro 400, pro quality with less price, just got it recently and a 2x10 and a 1x15.
tube has zero - nothing to do with it. the 350x has a preamp tube, not poweramp tubes. the question is, how many watts is your current head at 8 ohms, 4 ohms and 2 ohms, and how many watts is the 350 at 8,4 and 2? IIRC, swr uses the same power rating system in their pro and wm series heads so if the rating is similar, the yes, the 350 will be as loud.
I had the unfortunate experience of playing out of a WorkingMan head (the 4004) at a Casino gig I was doing recently. No offense, but it was literally the worst sounding head I've ever played out out (and I think I've played through everything!)... very clanky highs, thin lows and nasally mids.... if you have a chance to get a 350x... do it PS The WorkingPro stuff sounds much better than the Workingman stuff also, IMO
