Will it make a difference?

  1. Right now i have an Austin 5 string which is a decent bass but obviously isn't the best of the best. I was just wondering if getting some new pickups and putting them in would get a noticably better tone or if i should just get a new bass. I don't really have the money right now for a whole new bass that's why i was wondering.

IMO - after the cost of getting nice pickups and having them installed, you'll have spent more than the initial cost of that bass. Plus, your old tone and volume controls will still be the same old, same old.

My advice is to save that money and get a good workhorse like an MTD Kingston or something that's not made of plywood and is second-hand. As you said, the Austin is "decent" for now.
