will my jazz handle heavy gauges strings?

I am planning putting a set of .050 .110 strings on my jazz, 'cause I play hard and I hate all that fret noise when I pluck the lower strings... now I have .045 .100... I noticed my jazz bass has a very thin neck... would it handle heavy gauges???
  2. Sure it will handle heavey guage strings.

You need to watch and make sure the nut is wide enough to handle the heavier guage strings and watch the tension on your neck.

If you have a cheaper (MIM) or older jazz neck without reinforcement, is it going to be a troublesome process to switch to a .050-.110 set? On some other forums like Harmony Central, some posters said they wouldn't put a .110 on anything but an MIA neck because of the quality of the wood and the lack of graphite or steel reinforcements. I'm not sure whether they're being snobby or not.
