Guess ordering some wood today makes it official. I'm in.

    *First 4 string bass
*First Fender Jazz Bass style build
    *First time chambering a body.

So here is what I'm planning. A jazz bass style build with a flamed maple top, bottom, and fret board. I've seen a couple of totally flamed out jazz bass and I really like them. The neck wood is going to be wenge. Plan on putting in some EMG's.

Although it is shaped like a jazz I am going for a more modern boutique type feel and sound. 18 radius fretboard, small fret wire, and super low action. I am going to use the measurements from my 69 jazz bass.

    Hope to get started soon.

Something like Durham's Water Putty would work. I have used it as a substitute for clay dots on a rosewood board. No finish over it al all and It hasn't degraded at all in about 5 years.

Shop Durham's Water Putty at Lowes.com

Press it into the slots. Let it dry and sand off the excess.
