What's a good one ? I don't want some fancy rack mount thing. the little 2 pieces deals look ok, who makes a good one ? Preferably one that comes with 2 transmitters.
There are dozens of posts on the topic in this forum.. The subject has been beat to death. You'll basically get a choice of: Line6 G series Shure ULX-D Other
If you plan on gigging, and plan on having a crowd, and the sound system may be ran by a new digital board with wifi capabilities, skip the digital wireless. We (my band) all tried them and they're plagued with dropouts. The 2.4 ghz spectrum is just over crowded with cellular and wifi signals these days. RF or bust.
Agreed. Bought a G30....trouble from the minute I fired it up. Returned it. Look for something in the 100-599 Mhz range. 2.4Ghz is way too crowded.
I and our bands have used the G30's for the last 10 years with hundreds of gigs a year without a single dropout or interference. They use the 2.4 signal and never an issue.
That's not necessarily true.. KNOWLEDGE of how wireless/WiFi works, available/open channels, and setup + config thereof (in today's digital world) is as [much] needed as knowing how to dial in a bass amp tone. It's just a FACT. There can be issues for sure with 2.4G, so get a dual-band router and do all your network stuff on 5G. I've done literally 100's of gigs in the last 5 yrs and only had dropouts in my IEM's due to TV station interference. During that time I have used a G90 and now a Senn D1 for bass input. No issues with digital (2.4G) wireless, even on larger stages. And I'm running an auto-sensing Senn D1 "2.4 digital" with sharing the stage with 2x pedal-board mounted L6 G-series (50's? - can't recall which model) WITHOUT issue.
I've been using an Audio-Technica System 10 2.4 Ghz system for a couple years now. Sounds great, good battery life, solid build quality and nary a problem with the signal. It's double redundancy system seems to work flawlessly. I know that that band is getting crowded, but it hasn't caused me any problems. Maybe it's the neighborhood? YMMV
Line 6 G series does not work well on bass. You get dropped notes. This is from my experience and another bass player's experience using G30's.
Not sure you can apply G30 experiences to the entire series. I used a G90 on both guitar and BASS for some years and many gigs without incident.
After years of gigging the Line 6 G30 system and liking it I finally upgraded to the Shure GXLD Pedal wireless system and I absolutely love it. Best built and the rechargeable battery lasts forever seems like. I've used the same battery for 3 gigs and still shows 11 hours remaining. I love the metal chassis and the tuner option also built in. It is the perfect wireless system IMO.
I play alot of fast runs and riffs and have gotten as far as 60-70ft away from receiver and it is perfect. By far the best wireless I've ever used with no latency at all.
"noticeable" is the wrong metric. digital latency is a defined spec, and the better systems have shorter latency. that shure hangs at 4ms, which is good. some of the cheap little "bug" systems are at 10ms and above which is not good. each ms latency is like standing one foot further away from your amp; 4ms is not gonna be noticeable but 13ms might, especially if you're hearing the bass through a digital mixer into monitors because the digital mixer also has latency and it all adds up.
Thanks Walter! I knew that the Shure was 4ms. I was just wondering if users were, in their opinion, able to detect it.
i think that's more of an issue with vocals in IEMs; even a few ms latency creates a weird phasing/comb filtering effect in your ears from your actual voice vibrating the bones of your skull being slightly out of phase with the sound of your voice in the earbuds. as it is my line 6 G75 has less than 1.5ms latency, pretty much tops in that class.
That makes perfect sense! Yeah, I really like the looks and features of the G75, especially the employment of a standard 1/4" to 1/4" patch cable between the bass and transmitter. I just wonder about all of the comments I read about drop out issues at 2.4GHz. Have you experienced any such issues with your G75? It's comments about 2.4GHz issues that has me looking at the Shure QLXD14 system.
