I'm going to be putting together at dual MM project with 2 Duncan SMB-4a pickups. I want to mimic the Stingray 4HH wiring options but using a 5 way rotary switch. The options are:

    Neck humbucker-parallel
Outer coils neck and bridge - parallel
    Both humbuckers- parallel
    Inner coils - parallel
    Bridge humbucker- parallel

Can anyone provide a wiring diagram on how to accomplish this?

    Thanks.

  2. You'll need a 4p5t switch. Ideally, this would be a "shorting" switch, aka "make-before-break", aka "MBB" switch. That's so it doesn't give a little pop as you turn it.

I've just looked, thinking this would be hard to find, but stewmac and allparts both stock them. And I would assume they would stock MBB rotary switches, but it wouldn't hurt to email them to be sure.

As for the wiring, well it's just a matter of connecting all four common lugs for the hot, then giving each bank of 5 to its own coil, and choosing which position each coil is on.

@RobbieK Thanks for the heads up about the parts. Much appreciated. Its helpful. The wiring....I can solder but the figuring out on my own; that's where I'm challenged. But I'll keep searching. Thanks for the advice.

This is what I meant. A 4 pole rotary switch will have 2 layers, so you'll have to kind of interpret this a bit. I think the top layer will have the common lug sort of poking out in the middle and the bottom will have it in the centre like a regular single deck rotary switch.

Oh and this is the bottom view...

@RobbieK Thanks so much for drawing this out. I'll do my best to make heads or tails with it :) Much appreciated
