Calling all wiring experts: Anyone know how I can wire in my Villex split coil pickups (3 wires...red, white and black), to a Bartolini 3-band preamp? I've attached a picture of the preamp in question, but the current pickups only have one lead, so I'm wondering where the other goes for the Villex pickup. If it helps, here are Villex's suggested wirings, but they're all passive and incorporate his mid control. I just want to drop these in first before I go that route. Thanks! Aram
Classic Villex pickups need to be connected to his unique midtone to work properly, but this doesnt stop you to connect them to an active pre. Im sure there is someone here that has villex pups connected to a bart pre...maybe its Jauqo.
To the best of my knowledge, the mid control is an INTEGRAL part of the pickup circuit. Once you connect the mid -control then work with the two wires just like with any other pickup. The mid-control is not a effect (or gimmick) based in the pot; it's part of the circuit. I have a Bart preamp connected in the way that I describe and it works properly (even though I have it by-passed most of the time, cause I have no need to use it; the Villex pickups give me the tones that I desire and need)
Thanks guys! In an ideal world I'd like to run it all passive anyway, I was just hoping for a quick install. I think I'll just go ahead and rip out the Bart and wire it vol blend mid passive tone.
Villex pickups are passive all the way. The way the mid control works is NOT a filter but is like having several sets of pickups with one set. You may keep the preamp there, but mine has hardly seen any use in the past 3-4 years
