I have a great desicion to make: I´m actually playing a 5 strings bass (Ibanez SR405) but I´m always been a Yamaha heavy user for almost 26 years but I saw this great bass TRB1006 and I got mysefl falt out... I know that the 5 version is great, but for the price I think about the 6 six string version... but Do I really need that 6th string?

We actually can't decide what YOU need or not. Let your hands, your ears and your music decide, the results will be much better!

Im thinking that the first string (on 6 bass) is almost usesless... or not?...

What kind of music do you play?

It's useless if you don't feel the need to jump up another string when your playing.

IDK, I'd defiantly suggest trying one out first. Or maybe even tuning your 5 string so that instead of the B-E-A-D-G it's -E-A-D-G-C

If you want to know if you need that fifth string get a new set of strings with a C string included and switch them around. If you like that new string and find yourself missing the low B then go for it. Depending on where you live you may have to get the strings online. I know somebody that uses a guitar string too but I think that'd be a bad idea. It's all up to you.

  7. +1 - Now there's a good idea ... you'll know if you like a higher string.

Can't you just got to a music store, and try some?

  8. I own both. (same make/model)

OVERALL.. my preference is a 6 string between the 2..

to my taste, I prefer the thinnner/flatter neck of a 6..

The C string is useful for ballads and chording.

Guess that when I pull out the 6 string, folks also perceive the playing to be a bit better

Note.. I also have a bass strung BEAD.. this is just as about useful as a 5 string...

Biggest consideration is that your amp gear may change with the different tunings.. When starting on 5/6 my low B would crack up my prior setup.
