you can use them on any string
the cost about $10 or so
where at any music shop them might have to order one for a bass. or order it on line for less.
Get the one where you don't need to take the string off to put it on.

    OR

Go down to the hardware store and buy a cable clamp for $0.50 and use it. Not at fancy but works the same. get the one for 1/8 inch cable. you might have to put a layer of some kind of tape on the string to make it thick enough so the clamp will hold. You just put the clamp on the string below the bridge and move it around untill you find the place the bad note goes away. It could be on a diffrent string than the one you play when you get the note to sound.

Would the woof note be an a perhaps?

Don Higdon has a semi-secret method for hooking up a wolf eliminator that actually works. Don...?

As a matter of fact... The wolf
is very prominent on the A on
    the D string.

To eliminate wolfs only use a silver mounted bow.
