Wonder Woman 1984 = a real stinker

rating on IMDb is only 6.8/10, so it's a soft pass for me
has to be at least 7.0 for me to consider paying to see something

The first one wasn't great, IMHO.

I wouldn't say it's a stinker. I found it entertaining. The first one was better, but that usually can be said about most franchises. It was still better than most others in the genre. Certainly better than any of the Superman or X Men movies. I'd say its better then 90% of the overrated 100 quips a minute Marvel movies, but I admit that's probably going to be a minority opinion. The way Chris Pine's character was brought back was better than I thought it would be. I think Gal Gadot has done a great job with the character in all 4 appearances, even when the movie direction doesn't give her much to work with (Batman vs Superman, Justice League). I wouldn't have regretted paying the money to see it in the theater.

The first one was decent because Gal Gadot is beautiful and charming. The DC cinematic universe is trash and hopefully it'll go away. I'll watch this when I give hbo my money for a month when the Matrix 4 comes out.

I have avoided the superhero movies because of this.

Because YT popped them up for free, I just finished a Bond binge after not having seen any since the last Pierce one was still fresh. The first two were alarming in how cheesy that aspect was. "Was this written by ten year olds, or really very clever six year olds?" Then I settled into it and kinda enjoyed it.

I wonder how many people enjoy the cornyness of that and how many enjoy it with total earnestness.

It's such an odd juxtaposition of amazingly professional camerawork, set design, sound, wardrobe, and reasonably good choreography to then throw amateurish dialog and plot on top...

...sort of the polar opposite of the well written low budget art-house films.

I'm a fan. I really enjoyed the first movie, and honestly, watching Gal Gadot on the screen is a treat.
They could just film her standing there, and I'd watch the movie.

But, it was poorly done. There is some light entertainment there, but that is the worst script I have seen in a major production in a long time. Sorry to debbie downer this, but, if I made it, I would Not be proud.

I was very, very surprised with how lame the writing was on this movie.

Time to eject Patty Jenkins from the team, and see what someone else can do with this.

Hey, Hollyweird panders to the common clod.

When (if) I go to these sorts of movies, I view them, simply, as light entertainment, not to be taken seriously.

One of the most overrated movies of all time and definitely the most overrated of the Marvel movies. The CGI was bizarrely awful. Some of it looked like unfinished story board effects that made it into the final cut.

I have to disagree about Black Panther.

For me, it was nice to see a superhero movie with a compelling story that meant something, and the CGI seemed to be on a par with other superhero movies of recent years.

I really like "Shazam." Here's a movie that all about fun, and it delivers.

Sorry about ignoring Wonder Woman 1984 - I haven't seen it...:oops:

I'm clearly an outlier on BP. I just couldn't get into it.

Shazam was pretty good. Grew up watching the series on Saturday AM in late 70's.
