I'm really digging my Wonderlove Deluxe! Ive been running an octave in the loop, today I'm adding an IE Oxide. I did a search to see what other pedals people are running in the loop and what place in the chain people run a compressor. I've been using my comp after the WL. Not a ton of results came up so here we go. My question - what's your preference for comp placement? I know filters like unadulterated signals going in, so what's your choice? In the loop, after the WL or as a end of chain limiter? I'll be doing my own unscientific testing later.
I usually run my comp early in the chain when using the wonderlove as it's not as prone to big volume spikes like my other filters. Right now I'm using my Qtron+ so I have it after the filter to limit the big volume spikes.
I use my compressor after the WL. It doesn't make much of a difference in my setup but the placement on m my board is easier that way. It's not a spikey as a lot of filters as pointed out above but it may be helpful if you run several pedals in the fx loop and like to stack them.
Great responses guys. Tonight at rehearsal in the loop I had comp>octave>fuzz and I actually liked it better than having the comp after the WL. My comp is always on, it was kind of cool how the comp worked with the filter as opposed to just taming peaks afterwards. Just a different feel. me likey!
For me my comp goes after the Wonderlove, and I have a Doom in the loop. I use the loop in buffered mode so I can access the Doom without the Wonderlove engaged if I need some synths fuzz without the envelope.
Comp after my WL. I want full dynamic attack available to the WL because it is made to respond to dynamic playing. I run my Octabvre before the WL (not in the loop) and the Doom fuzz in the WL loop. The are both dynamic sensitive pedals so I want them in the same mini loop.
I use my comp (PWNZOR) pretty lightly to fatten up the signal, not squash too much. I like it as early as possible in my chain, but not before any pitch effects (in my case, a Boss OC-2 and Bass Whammy). The pitch effects tend to track better with an uncompressed signal, especially the OC-2. The comp also balances out those voicings a little better to my ears. My bass goes straight to the input of the WL, then immediately into the WL loop, going Whammy > OC-2 > PWNZOR > a few others.
