    Hey all,

I'm looking at taking my first steps into building my own 6-string bass.

I'm looking at a bolt-on 3- or 5-piece neck, rock maple with wenge or mahogany stringer/s (any suggestions which to go with?), with an ebony, fretted fingerboard. What body wood would balance well with this and give my nice clear tones. Also, any suggestions as to what back and top wood would look good with the ebony fingerboard? I was thinking a nice piece of flamed tiger maple (the whole light to dark thing).

    Thanks guys.
