I'm gonna have a friend of mine build me a J-Bass, but in a Neck-thru design. I have the fretboard material, Beautiful Maple board. I'm thinking about Mahogany body with a Maple Burl Top (on body sides only so neck material still shows), And a Wenge neck. Any advice you could give on my wood choices? I think this will be a good set-up, It'll have a Sadowsky-ish body, neck through with a 2x2 headstock with straight string pull. Nordstrand Pick-ups, and a Custom HBE active preamp. Did I leave anything out?
I would go with a lighter wood for the body, as the wenge and especially the maple board will pretty much decide most of your tone, imo
