I have a question for the luthiers about top woods and how they affect the tone of the instrument. This might have already been discussed but I did a search and couldn't really find answers to the question. I'm a big fan of ash bodies. My question is how different exotic top woods affect the tone if at all. I know the thickness has something to do with it so let's assume it's 1/4" top (seems to be popular). How do various woods i.e. figured maples, bubinga, walnut, cocobolo, bocate, koa, and whichever others you guys use affect the tone of the instrument? Thanks,

    David

IMO and IME, a 1/4" top will do nothing you can hear to your bass sound.

Check the F Bass yahoo group cause George talked about it some weeks ago and he is, juts like you a big fan of ash bodies :D
