Wood/Figuring Question

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by bachlover, Jun 4, 2014.

  1. Anyone know what type of wood this is? Also, the technique that was used to give the top those beautiful black accents?

    The top is quilted maple.

The quilts are highlighted using black stain, than sanded and red stain is applied.
  3. The figuring occurs naturally and the stain accents it. That is quilted maple. You should also look up flamed maple. Some also call it curly maple
  4. Thanks guys!
