I picked this up @ GC for $349.00 about an hour ago! I'm now unplugged! :p

  2. That the olympia or the thunderchief?

I've got an Oly and love it to death. Great volume and tone unplugged and a nice growl hooked up.

    Grats on your new bass!

I could swear it says "Tacoma"!

Now, for a real treat, go string up a set of LaBella nylon tapes, grab a felt pick and find an unsuspecting acoustic guitarist... :D

It is a Tacoma, but the model is the Olympia. Since I have a deal with SIT strings, they are sending me a box of strings for it.

Huh, that's interesting - I could have sworn the Olympias said "Olympia" on the headstock. Must be a change.

Just to be sure - is the neck block (visible through the paisley) lam or solid? Is the top ply? Let's make sure you didn't get an extra special deal!

  8. That's gotta be wonderful... I wish I had a deal with D'Addario.. :D

How loud is it? The U.S. Tacomas are the loudest ABGs there are, but I'd imagine the laminate tops of the Olympias quiet things a bit.

FYI - my Thunderchief was a bit neck heavy, but a set of Hipshot Ultralites solved the problem.

  11. I played a Tacoma Thunderchief once, for a radio show, (Wisconsin listeners, the Naked @ 9 show from Z104) and it was lovely. To bad I couldn't own it...
I also got to try a fretless Olympia/Thunderchief...idk which one it was though...

No you don't. He said they are sending him strings, but he didn't say what he had to _do_ to get them. It's not pretty.

  13. Ohh I see.. So its one of those dirty "deals".
:( I'd rather buy a set every 6 months like I'm used to.

    $349?

    I now officially hate you.

Congrats. You just made a killing.

So true.... I took your advice on this, from a thread a while back, and the Labellas really bring out the beauty of my thunderchief's tone. Carvin sells them for 18 bucks I think. Thanks Heavy Duty!!!!

Now, you'll just have to help me figure out how to raise my E strings action a smidge. :D

  19. I did a lot of side-by-side comparing of the Thunderchief and the Olympia, and I couldn't really a difference in sound level between the two. For whatever reason, I just like the sound of the Olympia better when it was plugged in, so I went for it (and saved a bit of money by so doing).

    /edit

It was loud enough to be heard comfortably with two acoustic guitars and a singer.
