so i just joined this metal band  that tunes to drop A   (guitarist tunes AEADF#B), and while i'm all for detuning, there are tunes that i don't want to droptune.

anyways....do D-tuners like the hipshot work on B strings as well?

Yes, I believe that Elrick for one has put them on the Low B strings. I seem to remember Brad Johnson saying he had one on the B string of one of his basses also.

    So it does work.

  3. I had one on my Lull Modern 5 and it worked pretty good. I ended up putting it onto my Lull P4.

If you go to a local store that deals w/ Allparts you may get a better price. They might not stick to absolute retail.

Ken Lawrence uses them on his basses to great effect...

Bassplayer loved the low A on whatever bass it was they used for their ultimate 5 string feature a few years back...
