I’ve got my classic style 4 string and a modern style 5 string that are both really giggable and also not incredibly expensive. What I’d like next is a really nice bass that only goes out on certain occasions/venues(if that ever happens again). My trophy bass. I had several directions I considered and figured why not roll it all in to one and get a hollowbody, shortscale, unlined fretless, 6 string custom made bass. I’ve worked through some personal obstacles over the past few years and decided it time to set a goal to save enough to treat myself. Mensinger seemed like the most affordable option, and sound clips sound good to my ears. Now I know the Public Peace lines are great and a great value, and I also know I’m not getting a Ritter or Alembic. What I don’t know is how they play, sound is tricky because they have so many pickup and preamp options so I’m mainly looking to hear people thoughts who have played them. Comments about their sound is welcome, too, however.

I like chunky 4 string necks(P style), but slim 5 string necks(I love my Soundgear neck but didn’t mesh quickly with an SRX and pass it on down). I’ve used the configurator on their website(avoid unless you want to kill half an hour) and basically got 90% of exactly what I wanted on paper for around 2 grand. If I go all out it’s more like $2,800.

in addition I had some modifications I wanted that weren’t listed but should be easy enough, so I’d like to know if anyone did their custom shop and got things they weren’t listed(whether it was an additional fee doesn’t matter to me).

Anyway I leave the rest to discuss during the discussing, thanks for you time!

(and on the off chance anyone is close enough to maybe meet up and allow me to audition it a little, I’m near SLC, Utah)

Had to look it up out of curiosity, sweet little bass! Curious to see feedback from those with experience. Good luck!

I’ve had an eye on Mensinger for awhile, they look amazing I almost custom ordered a JokerB model. Still would love to at some point. I believe they are same people who also make maruszczyk Basses

What are the modifications you would want? I haven't ordered one, but I did inquire once about whether a certain combination of options that was not possible to build in the configurator could be done, and got a response directly from Adrian Maruszczyk telling me it would be no problem.

I want the Delano quad pickups to not only allow single coil/series/parallel switching but also split coil, and I want two volumes with no blend. I would prefer to use regular light gauge flatwound 6 string set, but set up for D standard or DGCFA#D#, I like the higher tension. And I’m halfway considering seeing if they’ll do it on a 5 string neck. I started on guitar with a lot of fingerstyle, so tight spacing doesn’t bother me. I guess I’m looking for boils down to a Bass VI like the Ibanez SRC6 but better in every way.

That’s good to hear! I appreciate you insight! I’m sure there are some limits somewhere, but I think mine are reasonably easy, and I could do it myself if they won’t or the cost isn’t worth it. But obviously I’d prefer to have it just right from the get go.

Yeah, those sound reasonable enough. The only thing that I'm not sure about is whether the coil splitting you want is possible. I don't know much about electronics, but the only pickups I've seen that have that kind of switching available are the Sims Super-Quad pickups.

That’s fair, I really like the Sims but it didn’t see the option and in my head I see 4 coils and I assumed I could take one from the front coil and one from the back, but thinking on it they would have to be wound a specific way to get that option. The Schecter CV-4 has a similar option though, single/parallel/split, we will have to see. That’s something I could check into with more detail when I’m depositing I guess.

Might be worth sending an email to Delano to see if it's possible.
