Hey fellow bassists, WOULD you buy a 1968 Fender for 1000 $ ?? It's CBS correct? BUt is it still a good bass? This is a lot of money for a kid like me, so I would appreciate your input greatly. Thx -T
cbs bought fender in 1965, so, no it's not a pre-cbs - however, have you played it??? if it plays good and sounds and feels good to you, I'd consider buying it.
nate - I think he's referring to before CBS sold the name. A grand would be a good price if it's clean and not modded or refinished and has all, and I mean ALL, the original parts, like the ashtrays and the pickguard. If you can't verify whether it's mint or not, I'd be apprehensive. Take a look at www.basspalace.com and compare. They always have some CBS and pre-CBS for sale, both mint and not-all-original. NO ONE can honestly say if it's "a good bass" without playing it and hearing it plugged in.
KK... i'm not a collector..... the bass sounds great, but it's been modified. Defretted. It plays easy it's awesome. But is 1000$ reasonable for that kind of bass. Relatively. What are other 1967-1969 fender p's worth? Pot or no pot and such. -T
Jeepers. Why on earth would you do that, when soon, you will be able to buy a brand new Lakland 55-02 for that kind of coin?
*whistle* Seems hostile out here, wondering bout a bass hehe. Srry there Rickbass, after I posted my message, I re-read your post and realized that I didn't read it correctly. BTW Luis, why the big NO?? -T
1968 is still a reasonably good year for Fender basses - CBS just bought the company in 65, and the quality was still reasonably good (even into the early 70s). If the bass is all original, just defretted, then it's a good price. You really need to play it too - if it sounds good, then $1000 is a good price IMO.
