quick advice sought I'm at Guitar Center and they have an American Standard P-Bass for $400 (used). Only problem appears to be that the body has been repaired. According to sales guy, the guy left the bass in his hot car, and the glue holding the lower portion of the book matched body gave up and that part of the body fell off. GC gave the guy $200 for the bass, repaired the body by gluing it back together. And now they are selling it for $400. Neck is straight. It sounds great, but the repair job is noticeable, though only on the back side. The split was a good 1.5" from the bridge (typical 3 piece body glued together).
Damn, musta been pretty damn hot! Anyway, the rest of the bass is worth $400. You can always get another body if you desire.
No major dings on the body. Can't figure out how else the body would have come apart. I does get hot in Austin.
If they really gave him 200 for it, then you'll walk out with it for 300. If you really feel the rest of it is in great shape, then you've got 300 of parts on your hand, right? Offer them 300. Don't waffle, and don't be afraid to walk out and question. Everyone who walks into the shop will be faced with the same choice, and newbies probably won't be willing to take the hit.. and everyone who knows will just offer them 300.
that thing will be awesome for $3-400.00! take it home and have one of the nicest beater basses around.
Take it, GC has a 30 day used item return policy. For $400, cosmetic damage aside that is a pretty good deal. Don't pay tax, say you can do 400 out the door and see what he says.
Would I? HELL YES. As the previous poster pointed out, you can return it if you hate it. I don't tend to buy basses with an eye to their resale value anyway. Great deal!
This is some of the most bizarre damage I've ever seen on a bass. A friend of mine left his Squier Affinity p in the back seat of his car for a couple of days, surprisingly it came out in the same shape as it was when it went in, and we both live right outside Houston. I would try to talk him down a little more. Tree fiddy.
