  1. SO this is my Carvin / kiesel bass...it was what I would call some kind of matte finish...not glossy or anything special...the woodgrain is nice...I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to re-finish this...or leave it as is.... bassfrt. bassbak.

    This thread needs a poll.

I vote leave it. It looks good like it is.

What kind of finish are you considering? It’s not a terrible looking bass, but the current finish wouldn’t really inspire me to pick it up and rock out on it.

Well your pics aren't in great light so it's hard to tell if it's grey, brown, or some sort if green.

Either way, the color is sort if "dull" to me. I would paint that sucker.

  5. I don't know its not bad but I think it could benefit from a glossier finish...bring out the woodgrain more perhaps...

I had a bass that looked similar to that one. I liked the sound and feel, but I didn’t bond with it until I stripped the body to natural. That’s just my experience, but a refin can definitely improve relations with a bass.

Paint it white with matching headstock. Tort pick guard, of course.

Any idea what the finish is? You may be able to bring up the gloss by buffing a bit.

In those pics it is a fine looking bass. No changes needed.

I’d refinish the crap out of that bass. Maybe do a colored stain, possibly paint it. Endless options there, hard not to try them.

Why would you want to "fix" something that isn't broken ?? --- LEAVE IT ALONE !! The wood is good, but not spectacular - and if you do anything drastic you may not be satisfied with the result.

I’d try simply buffing it first to see if you can bring out some shine.
