Guess the type of wood this is! Larry at Gallery Hardwoods just sent me these pics. This set is actually being considered by another builder, and if he passes on them they're MINE!....

I'm thinking this top set, flamed maple stabilized fingerboard with black mother of pearl dot inlays, swamp ash body with thin bloodwood accent layer between the top and body, not sure of the neck woods yet..... OIY!

The coloring reminds me of snakewood. That would be one pricey set if it really were...

  7. Kinda reminds me of looking at a NASA Hubble shot or something. Uh, that's a good thing!

Go slow with that one huh? don't want to let the router slip.

    Awsome wood.
To me the colors and way the pattern falls reminds me of the veloceraptor from jurassic park. That's a complement though.
I really like it. Post some pics when its done.

  11. Should we call this some sort of Luthiery Rorschach?

If it is, TJ's response is quite telling! :D

It is black dyed maple burl.... the other builder snatched it up, so I'll hafta wait for the next set.... Gallery Hardwoods can dye it almost any color... purple maple burl anyone?! Maybe with a pink ivory fingerboard?.... oohh... pimp-bass!
