Just came across this and I am smitten. Never saw one before. What a looker. This doesn't look like it has holes for a PG? The knobs are also black, which could very well have been a PO mod? I know very little about EBMM basses and I am not crazy about the look of their PG's and what it reminds me of, but this beauty is definitely working on the ol' G.A.S.! This also appears to be flame maple rather than quilt maple?
Had one (with the pickguard) and sold it. Beautiful instruments. One of the few basses I regret parting with...
2 things: Do the teeth in the tat get cleaner in the winter when the tan fades? Every time a Ray is sold an angel gets its wings. That's gorgeous. And it makes any player better just by being in the room.
Is it possible they made different versions of this? I added a close up pic and I don't see holes for a PG? Also, the pic I added looks more like a flame maple rather than a quilt maple? I'm not saying that is what it is, I am saying that is what it looks like.
What Chiliwailer said. IRRC Flame seems to be the rarer of the 2. I don't like pickguards that cover premium woods. The one you posted a pic of seems to be a crotch cut figuring that is fairly symmetrical. Even rarerur. Excellent looking. About This Listing A total of 1,246 anniversary Basses made. That's the cleanest Music go round I've even seen.
I had one of these, but it had a glued-on tort pickguard. Great bass. The only reason I don't have it today was that I swapped it in a deal for my '67 P-Bass.
That's a beauty! Love the wood, love the lack of "toilet seat" pg. Love the way they sound, I'm wit ya on this bass!
I like the wood, but yes it seems like it's missing something. Even a clear PG would help complete the look without covering that grain.
I Don't love bursts or maple fretless boards, or Ray's in general ... but something about this thing just speaks to me: Ernie Ball Music Man BFR Stringray 4 Fretless Electric Bass Vintage Sierra Burst | SamAsh
