My dog's tongue gets enormous when she gets tired. I mean probably twice the width it normally is. Does this happen to your dog? I'm assuming maybe it gets bigger in order to dissipate heat better when they get hot.

Here's a pic after a little bit of playing...it's getting bigger but not yet full-sized:

Here's another after a lot of playing. This is pretty much full size:

Here's another one. It looks like she's yawning but she's not...just panting and I caught her with her eyes halfway closed:

"Brad, why are you posting this?" you might ask. Well, I'm bored, my wife is on-call and working all day and well...I'll take every chance I can get to shove pictures of my cute puppy in your grill. Plus, that's one huge licker. She's only 34 lbs now. When she gets full grown I imagine she'll be able to lick my entire face in one swipe.

:spit: <--- pretend that's :lick: instead of : spit : for now.

    roxie looks great!!!!!

Jaco does have a huge tongue and yes as he gets more tired from a walk or fetch, his tongue does get bigger. I would think it does that to get rid of the body heat in a more efficient manner.

Jaco is over 60lbs at 6months, how much does Roxie weigh?

She's only about 34 lbs at 5 months. She'll probably top out somewhere close to 60lbs.

dogs dont sweat, so they instead get rid of body heat by panting, and at the same time they cool themselves down by cooling their tounges down.

some breeds that have evolved for colder climates have smaller narrower tounges (look at a husky for example) because they rarley need to cool themselves down, while dogs that have evolved for warmer climates have a longer wider tounge to get maximum air-flow and have the biggest possible surface area.

    god im good

I doubt it grows though.. Flattens out for more surface area is more likely :eyebrow:

Yeah, i dont think anyone was suggesting is physically grew...

It just flattens it to decreace the sa/vol ratio and increace the surface over which heat exchange takes place. ba bum.

I have a yellow lab/golden mix. Looks like a more trim, longer legged lab. He weighs over 100 lbs now and he like to cuddle. Unfortunatly he knocks me off the counch when he tries to get close.
