Interesting interview with the Woz.* http://inquirer.stanford.edu/2005/jstaffor/woz.html *cult of Mac members, don't read too much into anything here, this guy was a pioneer and a lot of us are interested in what his perspective is; agree with it or not.
I thought it was cool how Woz totally downplayed his invention to his HP superiors so he would be able to put a home computer out to the masses. (HP has a clause where anything invented by an employee is property of HP unless HP OKs said employee to run with the idea on their own. Apparently a home computer in a wooden box didn't impress HP too much. Oops) [edit] Your link didn't work for me.
I was under the impression that just about any company had those kinds of clauses. I spent three years working for the University of Saskatchewan (outside of class endeavours) and in that time everything I did technically belonged to the school. -Nate
They do. I worked for a telecomm company and had to sign paprs to that effect too. I talked to a lawyer about that who claimed it was fairly universal. edit: and yes, he definetly made the right move there!
I'm under the same agreement at my place of employment as well. Even things I do in my off time have to be run past management if I want to sell it for money.
