As far as home use, which is more practictal? I run some RAM hungry applications, play alot of up-to-date games and generally use my PC to it's potential. Now,is Pro really worth the extra bucks,or is it all office applications? I'll also be using my PC to record music eventually. Any info would be appreciated. Mac users, hush. :smug: -Luke

Pro has additional user management and networking features, that's all.

Cool Bliss, appreciated. I'm running Windows Me,which used to give me no problems whatsoever. Now,it's a minefield. I've found XP HE for about $69 online. I think I'll make the investment. Thanks again,Luke

Indeed. We had Win2k on the finest office 'puter, it was working quite well in every way. Then we "upgraded" it to XP Home(less) and we were suddenly in a world of pain and trouble - couldn't get scanner to work, couldn't get printer to work, trouble connecting to file server, system was slow and unstable....... I wish we had kept Win2k.

win2k and WinXP are basically the same. XP just adds a bunch of stuff to a similar base. You can strip it down to look/act/seem just like win2k. If you want to play games or use 3rd party software, you should use XP.

One difference no one has touched on is XP Pro's ability to handle multiple processors. I don't know what kind of computer you are using but if you have multiple processors you need to upgrade to XP Pro to use more than 1.

Well, after using both Home and Pro, I would DEFINITELY go with Pro.

My mom's laptop has XP Home and it is EXTREMELY unstable. Has been since the day she got it really.

My Dell has XP Pro and I've never had ANY problems except the ones I caused. Seems to be much more stable than home.

    Just my $.02.

  16. Wait. So it's best if I have 512 ram if I upgrade to XP?

*needs another PCI 133 256 stick*

So, you have two completely different users on two completely different computers and you think the difference causing problems is the OS? That would not be my first diagnoses.

I was the one that did everything on the laptop to get it set up and running and I also used it daily while I was still home. When I left for college I got my own computer with XP Pro instead of Home because I wasn't impressed with the way Home ran.

The computer itself had little or nothing to do with it, and I was a frequent user on both machines. That help??

Help to explain the differences? No.

Help me get a sound night's sleep? Most definitely.
