When I started playing bass 2 years ago, I was sure I'd never get into the nitty gritty details and tweaks beyond: buy a bass, amp, and make great music.

Well, I just placed an order for my first set of flatwounds to put on my Squier VM shortscale Jaguar (D'addario light ECB81S), as well as a hipshot tuner for my Frankenbass to allow easier transitions between standard to drop D.

Last month, I bought copper tape to shield buzzing electronics. My Frankenbass went from 60Hz nightmare to super quiet.

Next, I'll shield a used MIM Fender I recently picked up for a steal at a local pawn shop. It's my first PBass, and the tone is absolutely incredible. Needs some work on the pickguard, which appears to be an replacement that doesn't quite line up.

I blame all of you. Curses and bad vibes all around. I've fallen down the rabbit hole and there's no going back.

No; I never said I only have three basses. This place gave me severe GAS and I've been trading and collecting like a lunatic. Ya fargin bastages!

I aint sayin how many I have. But my wife is an enabler, so it could actually be much worse than it is.

My wife is also an enabler. She brings them home!
In my defence, I had 3 when I started TB, and I have been down to 3 in the past year (at some point)

All you have to do is quit reading the posts and looking at the shiny pictures!
How many amps do you have...Buy More!

This forum has been a godsend to me, too, as I'm getting really obsessed with bass. I come from a very long history of electric guitar obsession, so it's nice having this forum to help me dive headfirst into the amazing world of bass!

mrb, I aint telling you how many amps I have... or cabinets dangit. I blame TB for that too.

BUT: I can brag that I only have one pedal! ...for now.

Buzz, unfortunately that skeleton isn't mine, it belongs to my drummer. It's a coincidence that we're starting a Doom band. Ok, maybe it's not such a coincidence.

Oh, wait- you caught me. I wasn't counting the octave/chorus pedal that has dual inputs for microphone and guitar. Ok, two: Two pedals.

  16. Better to be one than pay one, geek that is.

Nice AXL body. I have PJ in brown. Had to shield it in copper. You are in the rabbit hole and a parallel universe.

Nah. Bass nerdity (nerditude? nerdisity?) was in you the whole time. We just brought it to the surface. You were always a carrier for the disease or we wouldn't have been able to drag you all the way in.

FAT drive is my other pedal.

Yeah, the AXL body is fun, and the PJ pickups sound amazingly good - once I shielded the cavity. I picked one up used on the cheap with a neck curved like a banana and no adjustment left on the truss rod. Hence the replacement neck from Fender. Replaced the crap tuners with Fender vintage. I'm about to order a tortoise shell pickguard to complete it. There's something about a white guitar with a tortoise pickguard that...has become an obsession. At least that's a cheap upgrade.
