I've been eyeing up a bb 425/1025 recently, but it seemed I took an interest in them right as they were being replaced by the new line. I can still get my hands on one though, trouble is I can't play it first. I'm the kind of guy where I can't buy a bass blind.

What I want to know is how similarly do these 2 basses sound/feel/play? I went to Dawsons and tried out a 435 and thought it was great - sounded great, the neck shape, width & finish suited me (still getting to grips with fivers). Is the 425's neck similar? Tbh I really enjoyed the 435, if I could get my hands on a black pickguard and some other control knobs I'd be tempted to go with that instead.

    Hi,

if the question is still relevant :) I just bought a 435 beside my 425. I can't say to much about the similarity of the tone, because they have different strings so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. The neck has the same parameters on both. The 435 has 6 screws instead of 4, don't know if this makes a difference. String keys, saddles are the same as well. Anyway, i'm in love with both :)

The 435 looks bigger. Is it?

No, it's not. Just the angle of the photo. They have almost perfectly the same sizes.

All very helpful. I had set in my mind that it was going to be the BB435...until I saw the satin black 735a. I'm aware that the specs are pretty much the same, I think this is going to be my next bass (whenever that is). Nevertheless all the responses were very helpful thank you.

  6. The BB735A is a nice instrument. The preamp is very versatile. I also have EB Cobalt flats on mine. Mine's the 735A in DCS.

Congratulations!! I am convinced that my next bass will be a Yamaha, eitherthe BBP35 or the BNE2

I had a lovely 424x that I got rid of to get a new 434. I went through three...yes three 434s with bent/broken tuners. These were basses double boxed, padded, etc and still the tuners were split, loose, etc.

Finally my guy at Sweetwater told me he would go play a 734a for me, check it out and give me a great deal on it to make up for all the trouble. The deal was very fair and I went for the 734a and am glad I did.

The 735a has a better build quality, that maple/alder sandwich body, a matte black neck and a great preamp. I'm very happy with mine.

I have read about these broken/rattling tuners in the other yamaha thread as well. I don't know if this a common thing, but i had no issues at all with my basses.

edit: Now i checked, and the bb435 has longer tuners than the bb425. So maybe they tend to bend easier :\

Woah I hadn't hear about this, I was looking at the 735a over 435 as mainly a style preference but will definitely go for one now!

Yes I'm guessing the length doesn't set right in their packaging boxes and when any kind of pressure is put on that end it is all focused on the tuner. In defense of Yamaha, they did send me replacement tuners for free.

  12. Hello, I've had my Teal Blue BB435 for a month. Yesterday I noticed one of the tuners rattling. Loose at the leaf. And the j p/u doesn't have any/enough foam under it. Can't adjust it. Can you share who you contacted at Yamaha?
