  1. Super solid preamp from the 80's. Built like a tank. Clean sounding.

You guys know what this is..and you know you want it.

    $180 shipped in the US

  2. A couple more pics

Also this pre works fine, I got it a few weeks ago and have been playing it a lot and it sounds great but it is just not what I am looking for. Very easy to dial in good tones

Looks like the headphone knob is not original and one of the rack ears is slighlty bent but it looks like it would rack ok with no problems.

    free bump

    someone snag this

one of the best bass preamps ever designed

  4. I think that might have been mine at one point... the deep bit of rack rash looks real familiar. Great unit, I sold it because I went all tube... it's VERY similar to an Alembic pre.

  5. any interest in a trade for an ashly bp41?

    Somebody grab this.

It is one of, if not THE, best bass preamps ever made. I've owned about four of them over the years, and would get rid of them only because I switched to all-tube a couple of times (never because of malfunctions or problems with the preamp).

I have one now that I will never let loose, otherwise I'd buy this one.

  7. I agree, it is probably the best sounding solid state pre I have ever heard, and it was a hard decision to let it go, but I just gotta have tubes.

Sorry, but no thanks on the Ashley, gotta have tubes.

Also I have a pdf of the service manual for it, that I will email to the buyer if they want it

"What they said". This is what I use now with a Carvin Poweramp. It has a great sound, nice features and is the best purchase I've made yet. I think I payed lotz more...:meh: Someone buy this, or I might get crazy and do it just 'cuz.

How do you compare it, soundwise, to an Alembic FX-1 ? Did the guy earlier mean that it sounds similiar to an Alembic, or it has the same features as an Alembic ?

I have an Ampeg SVP Pro that I want to get out of. I want growl, though.

  12. I have never played an Alembic so I can't really compare, maybe somone above will chime in.

The Yamaha is very clean and does not color the sound much, if your tube ampeg doesn't give you enough growl then maybe you want something like an RBI, but the Yamaha won't add any growl that your bass doesn't already have on it's own, but it does enhance what's already there.

  13. Still available

Both the Alembic and Yamaha are based on the original Fender Bassman preamp circuit. I tried an FX-1 once, and had a PB-1, and yeah, I could hear the similarities.

I think the Yamaha has a little more neutral sound if I remember correctly, it's been some years since I've had either. The FX-1 has more snappy crispys up top for sure. The PB-1 was not what I would call exactly the "hi-fi" Demeter vibe...but with the right cabinet and horn I'm sure you can funk it up just fine.

The strength of the P-1 in my opinion, is the super solid punchy in your face tone. I've never heard any thing like it since, and I'm still wishing another manufacturer would clone this sucker with an additional tube circuit, good compressor, and delete the cross-over section. I do recall the Aguilar 500 watt head sounding close though.

If I was not downsizing, I'd make this my 3rd PB-1. Or 4th?

    This is a GREAT pre-amp.

  17. neutral is a much better word then the word clean that I used above
