I rescued this bass from a local pawn shop Saturday. Got her cleaned up and restrung, and she's mighty fine.

I was wanting to know how old it was, so I Googled a bit and found a serial number chart for Yamaha instruments. According to the chart, if I'm reading it correctly, it was manufactured in January of 2000.

There is a date stamp on the neck that reads 89.1.11!? So, November of '89?

Which is right? I'm inclined to think that the stamp is more accurate and I can't read serial numbers very well.

EDIT: The serial # is QH26114

    I'd go with 11-Jan-89.

I recently scored a RBX270 at my local pawn shop for the low low price of only $65.
It was the lightest bass I ever owned, but unfortunately something was wrong with the truss rod.

The tuning machines on the RBX2X0 series are good ones, though, unlike the plastic ones they're putting on the RBX1X0 series.

According to some sites, the Yamaha RBX260 was made between the years of 1996 to 2000- not sure, but that would go with the dating on the serial number.

  6. That serial number reads #114 produced on January 26, 2000. Perhaps the stamp reflects the date the neck was manufactured but it wasn’t assembled until 2000.
Either way, you will enjoy it. They are really solid players. I bought mine brand new in ‘98 and it still plays like it is brand new.
