I have the chance to purchase a used but nice Yamaha TRB 1005 for $400, BUT from my understanding the electronics are noisy, can anybody with knowledge of this bass please chime in.

    No, that's a horrible deal.

Please give me the seller's email address and phone number so I can chew him out for selling this awful bass at such a ridiculously high price.

Smokin' deal. Grab it. I played one of these in the music store where one of my daughters takes voice lessons. This bass has killer tone, and a great B string. I don't think you can go wrong here.

    You're still here? Move!

Even with the weak link of the electronics, that is an amazing price for a platform to upgrade. However, realize that the string spacing is substantially tighter than the high-end TRBs (around 17mm compared to 19mm.)

This "weak link" of the electronics.....would this be the same for the BB2004/2005 basses? I believe they have the NE1 pre onboard

Good question, i've thought about that also.

The guy from the store told me that the electronics are the weak link.
