So lets play one of these hypothetical games....

I've been wanting a new bass and I came up with some solid candidates. I thought we might as well hear from others what you would add to your collection.

Here is the catch. You can only choose basses that you would realistically buy. For example, you can't pick McCartneys Hofner or Lemmy's Rick. You also can't pick some crazy custom 10,000 dollar beast if you wouldn't actually spend that kind of money on a bass. I would never be able to justify more than 2500 on a new bass unless I got some magical new high paying job so I'm gonna keep my choices under that amount. Here are my picks:

    1. Dingwall ABZ in natural with maple neck
    2. G&L L2000 in natural with rosewood board
    3. Warwick Corvette (either jazzman or double buck) in nirvana black
    4. Rickenbacker 4001 in Jetglo black
    5. Lakland Skyline DJ 5 in Pewter.
  2. 1. 1972 Fender Jazz. Maple board.
    2. 1964 Fender Jazz, blue, maple board pearl inlays.
    3. 1964 Fender PBass
    4. Ric, any 4000 series
    5. Peavey T-40 maple board.

Currently I have what I'd consider as four professional level basses.

    1972 Fender Telecaster bass

2011 Fender American 60th Anniversary Precision

    2011 Fender American Standard Jazz

    1995 Music Man Stingray

Eventually I'd like to pickup a Rickenbacker 4003.

So... I've already started on my "five".

Honestly, I am so enamored with the Fender Roscoe Beck V these days I would probably try to find one in each color. I know that's a cheesy answer but that bass just feels like home to me now.

A g&l l1000 to put flats on so I can put nickels on my l2000 and tune it to d/ drop c.

A p bass. I will then decide between it and my current one which gets a setup and intonated while wearing a foam mute/ flats while the other will wear rounds.

A thunderbird. I have a grabber reissue (thunderbird pickup) and it sounds awesome. Records particularly well.

A hollow body short scale. Not sure which one.

    And a 60s mustang.

Sure, some of the boutique stuff would be nice, but these workingman's basses would cover every sound I'd ever want or need.

A couple changes going on in my life (financial and band), but if both go as hoped, in the near future, a MIA Fender Standard Precision V.

In any case, I think I’ll be getting a Squier VM Precision V pretty soon.

Other than that, I really like what I have (see sig—but the P is a four-string). I might even sell a couple basses, and some other stuff I don’t use.

    I Grow Organic Carrots
    1 - Paul McCartney's Hofner
    2 - Paul McCartney's Rickenbacker
    3 - Chris Squire's Rickenbacker
    4 - Jaco's Fretless jazz
    5 - Geddy's jazz bass

Then I would sell them all for top dollar.
