  1. I bought a StingRay!!! First bass I've ever owned that wasn't a Yamaha, and I'm loving it. Man, why didn't I do this sooner???

...you have finally become a man.

  9. I went the other way: Own a Stingray, bought a Yamaha...

an old BB2000 - entirely different beast, and I'll be abusing both for a long time.

Um, after weeding out all the chaff, I will now say "Congratulations!"

    Color? Fingerboard? Photos?

We must have photos if we are to truly enjoy your score.

BTW, my advice is to ignore all the stuff about old versus new Stingrays. They're all pretty good basses.

  11. You callin my post "chaff"...well, you're right.

    Congrats on the bass
    .

  12. Welcome to the "Brothers of the 'Ray," club.

Hey, I just made that up, but it sounds pretty good, doesn't it? :D

Hoefully soon, I'll be a member of the "Brothers of the Bongo," club.

Congrats on buying a Stingray, Sal. They really are great basses. ;)

Well, does the headstock logo say Ernie Ball? That would be a good giveaway.

Yes, but considering that Ernie Ball has made Music Man basses longer than Music Man did as an independent company, what are the odds that stu's new bass is pre-EB?

Meaning pre Ernie Ball basses are better? news to me.

Is it documented somewhere? Just curious.

  16. Check my post above (post #13). I was just making a bad joke (hence the smiley) referring to the fact that a lot of people I've heard, consider the pre-Ernie Ball stingrays to be better. I haven't tried enough stingrays to be able to tell the difference.

    I'd say :p conveys a joke better than a plain :)

Smileys are like timing in comedy. Gotta use the right one! :rollno:

  18. The only thing I liked better about the pre-EB 'Rays were the bridges with the felt mutes. I'd never use the mutes, but it made for a real classy bridge.

New Rays have 6 bolt necks, use more consistent wood quality, have better finishes with better applications, the fit of the neck is better, the necks play faster, and the fretwork is better.

The only thing, IMO, that the MusicMan 'Rays had was a different quality of copper wiring in the pickup which gave a different colour. Some cats think that colour is THE sound of Stingray...I think it's just a different colour...Hunter green/Forest green. Very similar, just different.
