hey steve, tony in la here. i'm in the market for a small combo. i really dug your little ashdown abm combo at the la loop feste, but am also considering the euphonic audio iamp combo. have you ever played thru the iamp combo? if so, how would you compare it to your ahsdown. also, an md and dat of your la loop feste set is on the way across the pond! hope all is well, tony
Hi Tony, nice to hear from you! I have tried the Iamp, and really liked it - anecdotal feedback suggests that the newer versions aren't quite as good as the original Ashdown made versions, but I've not been in a position to put them side by side and test that - the ones I've tried have been really good. The reason that I stick with Ashdown for everything is that the tube front end on the Ashdown has a sweeter overdrive sound - whether your just pushing it a little or going nuts with it - than any other bass amp I've tried, but because of the blend control from solid to tube, it can still do a lovely clean sound as well - as you'll have heard at the gig, it's got a great full range sound, and reproduces all that ultra hi-end bleepy stuff that the G2 kicks out perfectly. I've tried a lot of other amps, and while I'm not fond of terms like 'best', the Ashdown is still the right amp for me, and nothing else I've tried seems to be as versatile. Best bet for you though, is to go into the LA Bass Exchange, send one of the guys next door to get you a coffee is Starbucks, and spend an afternoon comparing the two - if you're tempted to lay out that kind of green-stuff on an amp, it's worth taking the time to explore. Take the rest of your rig down, and work with it - oh, and say hi to Long, Dave and Justin from me! cheers Steve www.steve-lawson.co.uk
hey there steve, did as you suggested and scored a used, but in new condition ashdown abm 10" combo. thanks for the tips! take care, tony
Wahey Tony! Good choice, sir - let me know how you get on with it in a gig situation... Steve www.steve-lawson.co.uk
hi guys, hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread, but i'm getting an ashdown mag combo this week and i'm looking for a 2x10 extension cabinet to bump up the wattage. i should be looking at 8ohm cabs, right? thanks again!
yup, an 8 ohm cab is what's needed - probably the best option is the Ashdown 2x10 mag cabinet, as it's designed to go with that set up... cheers Steve www.steve-lawson.co.uk - updated
