Which type of strings do you prefer on your fretted or fretless Zon or Modulus basses? Nickel or SS? Why? And which brands do you prefer? The reason I ask this is that many seem to not like the sound of SS (because of the graphite/composite)on these basses and prefer nickel, and some say the opposite. What are your opinions?

  2. The steels tend to be a bit bright on my Zons.

    I'm always experimenting.

    Here's what I've found:

DR Highbeams - I like the bright sound but somewhat overly bright. Lots of fret clacking and such.

DR Lowbeams - I tried the nickel. Not very bright sounding. I haven't tried these in steel. They're next on my list to try.

    Sunbeams - Pretty good compromise!

D Addario - Slow wounds. As above.

Zon Ultrasonic Nickels - Good compromise but I don't like the "feel" on my picking fingers. Feels sticky to me.
